Careers for Schools Product Demonstrations

We would be delighted to show you around our platforms to demonstrate how they would help improve your school CEIAG provision. This usually takes 20-30 minutes.  These sessions provide you with the ideal opportunity to take a guided tour of one of our products and ask our experienced demonstrator any questions you may have.

Getting Started

Your subscription to a Careers for Schools package comes complete with a range of support to help you make the most of your licence.

Careers for Schools platforms are designed to run on computer networks, individual machines and laptops and mobile devices. The platforms work just as well on mobiles and tablets as they do on desktops. They are available for licensed users to use from the internet, without installing anything.

Our careful design and thorough testing aims to provide you with easy and trouble-free installation and use.

Each package is fully supported with a comprehensive ‘Manager User Guide’.  This has been created to help advisers and teachers use the ‘Content Management System’ to create users and groups, add content, edit details, monitor activity and evaluate results.

Implementation Webinars

While our platforms are intuitive and easy to use, we appreciate there are times when you may require extra support.   Our ongoing programme of implementation webinars is designed to help familiarise yourself with the platform’s features and implementing its use within the classroom.

As a subscriber to Careers Web we want you to experience a good service and excellent technical support.  Our helpline 01995 861104 is available between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday (excluding UK public holidays).

If after using the resources you experience a problem, please contact us for help and advice.  When contacting us, please help us to help you by including details of any problem you are experiencing, including:

  • Who you are
  • How to recreate the problem you are having (where to click, what to type, etc)
  • The exact message you are getting (screen-shots are always helpful).

How secure are our platforms?

  • Student data does not travel outside the EU and is always protected by high-grade encryption
  • Administrators have limited access to student data, and only when strictly necessary.
  • Servers sit behind multiple firewalls
  • Snapshot data is kept at 1 hour intervals for a minimum of 3 months
  • All data is stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998
  • Primary servers are managed by Careers for Schools personnel; only our web developers have access to the servers. 

 

FAQs

Q. What about access to computers?

The ratio of computers to students varies from school to school. Planning access is therefore important. An increasingly common approach is for schools to use their ICT staff to deliver the initial set up to ensure all students have technical access.

Q. Which version of Flash Player do I need?

Our packages do not use Flash. However certain resources we link to may do so. We recommend always updating to the latest version of Flash at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer . Please note that if you use the Google Chrome browser, the Flash player is directly integrated with Google Chrome and enabled by default. Available updates for Adobe Flash Player are automatically included in updates for your Chrome browser.

Q. What about mobile delivery?

Our packages use HTML5 and are compliant on all mobile and desktop browsers using the HTMLS5 standard. They have been designed to be very easy to use with a mouse/keyboard driven device or touchscreen. However, certain resources we link to may not have fully mobile-compliant websites.

Q. Why do the videos keep buffering?

Check your internet connection  If users are sharing the same connection, we recommend no more than two users viewing videos per 1Mb of connection.

Q. Why am I not seeing the pdf files?

The pdf files require an external plugin to view. Visit www.get.adobe.com/uk/reader. However, if using the Chrome Browser there are known issues when using the Adobe pdf plugin rather than the built in Chrome pdf plugin. We recommend disabling the Adobe version and using the default Chrome version.
